It has been an exciting week!  Students were excited about returning to school, catching up with their friends and Halloween! For those of you heading out Trick or Treating this evening, have fun and be safe! In Math this week, we played some math games and practiced counting to 100.  As well, we did some pumpkin math.  Students helped measure the height, circumference and weight.  As well, we guessed how many seeds are in our pumpkin.  Students learned that a pumpkin can float when we tested it.  We will continue learning about pumpkins next week! In literacy this week we learned all about the letter Nn! We learned how to make the sound and practiced reading and writing words that start and end with this letter.Students practiced printing uppercase and lowercase letters and drew a narwhal in their books.  Our new heart word this week was “ is ”.  *UFLI folders have been sent home in student backpacks.   Hello families! It was a short but busy week in grade one! Here are some of the learning highlights from our week together:  For literacy we were excited to learn a new vowel…. The letter ‘i’! Now we can read and spell even more words! We read our first decodable passages in class this week and they are in our blue folders to practice over the next week. Thank you for your support in this valuable practice time together.  In math we continued our learning with representing numbers to 20 with tally marks. We completed a fun “Write the Room” activity to practice reading tally marks. Zero the Hero also paid us a visit for the 20th day of school! He brought us a new “Robot Race to 20” math game to play. See if your child can tell you how the game is played! Students in Mrs. Watson’s class were excited to meet their buddies in Mrs. Coleman’s grade three class.
