Looking Back:

This week in literacy we introduced the letter “Ll” and practiced some blends with the letter ‘l’. We practiced the heart word ‘are’. We played some games to reinforce the tricky concept of blends.


In Math we focused on 2D shapes this week. We practiced identifying various 2D shapes and created “My 2D Shape Picture” by tracing shapes into our books. We also learned a fun new game with 2D shapes and talked about how we can sort shapes into groups based on different attributes. 


In science this week we completed a fun task which incorporated using our new vocabulary to describe properties of objects. We had to write sentences to describe the different properties of our toy or stuffy. Ex.) My toy is soft. My toy is blue. It was lots of fun! 




In social studies we introduced the topic of landmarks. We learned that a landmark is something you can see that helps you know where you are. It can be part of nature or something that people built.

  Looking Back: On Monday we celebrated international dot day by reading a story called The Dot. We then brainstormed some things that we could make out of a dot and drew our creations in our visual journals. In literacy this week, we learned the letter /t/. After practicing the sound for this letter, we learned how to print both upper and lowercase letter /t/ and learned how to draw a toucan to go along with our new letter sound. We have also started building words with all of the letters we have learned (s,m,a,t). We learned that we can change the beginning or ending sound and make a whole new word! (mat - sat -at).  We were very excited to bring home our UFLI folder this week! In it you will find some activities that you can practice over the weekend and during the week. First Week of School: Sept.2-5

Welcome to Grade One!  Hello families! It has been a wonderful start to the school year. The first few days of school have been filled with excitement and new learning as teachers and students get to know everyone in their class.  This week at school students have been busy practicing new routines. Students are now familiar with their daily classroom routine, and have enjoyed getting to go outside for recess and lunch!  Looking Back:  During literacy this week, students began reviewing letters through the UFLI program (University of Florida Literacy Institute). This program follows a specific scope and sequence to teach students skills necessary for proficient reading.  This week, students focused on letter /Aa/. They practiced printing upper and lowercase letter A on whiteboards and in their printing books. Students followed a directed drawing to complete a picture of an apple.   Good-bye September and Hello October.  It is hard to believe that we have been in school for 4 weeks.  Congratulations to all students in grades K-2 for your wonderful work with Three Left Feet and the performance on Thursday.   In literacy this week, we learned two new letters: /p/ and /f/. After practicing the sounds for these letters, we learned how to print both upper and lowercase letters /Pp/ and /Ff/. This week, we learned how to draw a parrot and a fox to go along with our new letter sounds. We have also started building words with all of the letters we have learned (p,f,s,m,a,t).
