Sept. 15th - 19th

 Looking Back:

On Monday we celebrated international dot day by reading a story called The Dot. We then brainstormed some things that we could make out of a dot and drew our creations in our visual journals.

In literacy this week, we learned the letter /t/. After practicing the sound for this letter, we learned how to print both upper and lowercase letter /t/ and learned how to draw a toucan to go along with our new letter sound. We have also started building words with all of the letters we have learned (s,m,a,t). We learned that we can change the beginning or ending sound and make a whole new word! (mat - sat -at).  We were very excited to bring home our UFLI folder this week! In it you will find some activities that you can practice over the weekend and during the week. As we go we will add more decodable passages and games to play. Please return these every Thursday so we can add the new materials on Friday!

On Monday we had a special visitor for day 10! It was Zero the Hero who loves the number 0. We learned that he will come every ten days and bring us a fun activity. This week he brought some beads and pipecleaners. We first practiced representing the numbers 1-10 on a ten frame and then we got to put the beads on the pipe cleaner to make a bracelet. We are very excited for him to come back. Ask your child if they know what day he will be back again!

Looking Ahead:

All About Me Bags: Keep an eye out for a brown bag with a little note attached - this is our All About Me bag! We are hoping you can work with your child to find 3-5 items that represent who they are and things they are interested in.

Library:  Students have Library book exchange on Tuesdays.  Please return library books on or before Tuesday.

Home Folders:  This week students were sent home with blue folders which contain weekly practice for supporting reading and writing at home.  The concepts in the folder have been taught through the week. Please take time throughout the week to review concepts in the folder and return the folders on Thursdays so we can get them ready with next week's work. Please email us if you require any clarification.
