Looking Back: Thank-you to everyone who attended parent-teacher conferences on Thursday and Friday. It was great to share and speak about your child’s progress.  On Monday we used our plans for our leprechaun traps to continue building! We had to follow our plans to assemble, test and modify our traps…in hopes of catching a leprechaun! Many of us had clever designs, signs, and different kinds of bait to attract a leprechaun.  When we came in on Tuesday, we were quite shocked to see that leprechauns had visited our classroom….and left a giant mess! There were chairs upside down, shoes missing, and confetti everywhere. Unfortunately no one was able to catch a leprechaun, but we did have a lot of fun writing about what we saw in our journals!  In UFLI this week we did a review about all the digraphs we have learned! We brought home a new decodable and a Roll & Read game to practice these sounds. There were no new heart words this week.  In math, we continued ...

March.9th - 13th  Looking Back: On Thursday we celebrated the 100th day of school! We did many activities throughout the day and even got to visit the other grade 1 teachers in the morning. It was a great day! In UFLI we learned about the sounds ‘ng’ and ‘nk’ and practiced some new heart words: for, or, where, there. We brought home the sentence game and a Roll & Read to practice with you!  In Social Studies we talked about what culture means and how people show it. We learned that culture is how a group of people live and includes what they wear, eat, believe, celebrate, speak, and create.  We read a story “How to Catch a Leprechaun” and thought it would be fun to try and catch our own leprechauns in our classroom. We planned out our trap and made a list of the things we would need from home. We started building on Friday and will continue to build on Monday. You are more than welcome to go and get some things from the dollar store but it is not at all necessa...

Looking Back: In UFLI this week, we continued our learning about consonant digraphs. We focused on the digraph /ch/ and learned that this sound can come at the beginning or end of a word, such as “cheese” or “peach”. We also learned the last 2 digraphs, ‘ph’ and ‘wh’. We realized it’s tricky to know when to use the digraphs and when to use just the letters ‘f’ and ‘w’. The more we practice, the more automatic it will be! We sent home a Roll & Read game to play in our UFLI folders. Our new heart words this week were walk ,  talk, would, could and should.   In math, we continued to practice adding questions. As an extra challenge, we did a timed activity to see how many addition questions we could answer in 3 minutes! We are hoping to practice this more and more and get faster each time!  Students will be celebrating the 100th day of school next week (Thursday). They can count out and bring in 100 items in a ziplock bag starting next week. We can’t wait to ...
