 Looking Back:

In UFLI this week, we continued our learning about consonant digraphs. We focused on the digraph /ch/ and learned that this sound can come at the beginning or end of a word, such as “cheese” or “peach”. We also learned the last 2 digraphs, ‘ph’ and ‘wh’. We realized it’s tricky to know when to use the digraphs and when to use just the letters ‘f’ and ‘w’. The more we practice, the more automatic it will be! We sent home a Roll & Read game to play in our UFLI folders. Our new heart words this week were walktalk, would, could and should.

In math, we continued to practice adding questions. As an extra challenge, we did a timed activity to see how many addition questions we could answer in 3 minutes! We are hoping to practice this more and more and get faster each time!

Students will be celebrating the 100th day of school next week (Thursday). They can count out and bring in 100 items in a ziplock bag starting next week. We can’t wait to see all the creative ways to count to 100!

In science, we read the story “Over and Under the Snow”. We talked about where different animals spend their days in the winter. We drew various areas where animals may go in the winter, then cut and glued the animals into the correct spots.

We read the story “The Mitten” by Jan Brett multiple times throughout the week.  Students engaged in sharing the beginning, middle, and end of the story, retelling the events, and looking closely at the illustrations.  After reading it several times, students completed a story organizer in which they wrote and illustrated an event from the beginning, middle, and end of the story.

Looking Ahead:

100th Day Celebration - Beginning the week of March 9th

In Math, we have been counting down to the 100th day of school!  Can you believe the 100th day is on Thursday, March 12th? We will be making a wall to show what 100 things look like. Please look around your house and find something small you could send to school in a ziplock bag that represents 100 things. For example, you could send in 100 Cheerios, 100 chocolate chips, 100 LEGO pieces, 100 paper clips, etc.  Work together with your child to count out 100 of their chosen item and send them in a bag labelled with their name. The items will be returned to you in a couple of weeks. Thank you for your help!

Boxes needed!

Please save a small box (shoe box or cereal box-sized) for your child to bring to school starting next week. Students will need their box to start building their special project on March.13th
