Nov. 24th - 28th

It was great to connect at conferences over the last two days. We really enjoyed sharing your child’s successes with you!

Looking Back:

In literacy this week, we focused on letters /g/ and /b/. We learned the sounds for both letters and practiced printing the uppercase and lowercase letters. We have been able to apply our knowledge of letter sounds to read and write lots of new words! There are two new decodable passages, as well as a “Roll & Read” game that have been added to our UFLI folders this week. We have practiced 2 different ways to play the “Roll & Read” game in class. See if your child can show you how to play at home!

In math this week, we reviewed and practiced representing numbers in a variety of ways and by using different materials. We completed a fun challenge to represent a given number using things such as popsicle sticks, cards, dominoes, dice, rulers, counters etc. We will continue to practice representing numbers next week as well.

We also had a visit from Zero the Hero this week for our 40th day of school! On day 40 Zero the Hero came and brought us a little treat! We got to sort and graph some fruit loops and answered questions about ‘most’ and least’.

In Science this week, we started talking about animals and how they survive in colder weather. We introduced the concepts of migration, hibernation, and adaptation. We focused on hibernating animals this week and watched videos / read stories to learn about animals that hibernate. See if your child can tell you about what they learned!

Looking Ahead:

The Magic of Christmas

Every Christmas Eve, The Magic of Christmas loads up Calgary Transit buses that are magically transformed into “reindeer buses”, with hundreds of gifts and volunteers dressed as Santa and his elves.  Then they deliver Christmas spirit into the homes and hearts of those who need it most.

From now to December 18, students and staff can bring in a new, unwrapped donation items (not food) and place them in the boxes located in the front foyer.

Please see the attached wish list for ideas of items to donate.
