Nov. 3rd-7th

Looking Back:

In literacy this week, we learned about two different letter sounds. The first one was nasalized “a”. We learned that this is a tricky sound that the letter a can make when it is followed by the letter “m” or “n”. It can be found in words like ham, fan, and ant. See if your child can tell you a word that has this tricky sound! We also learned a new vowel this week: letter “O”. Students practiced printing uppercase and lowercase letters and drew picture of things that begin with the letter “Oo” in their books.

*UFLI folders have been sent home in student backpacks. They contain three new sheets (a weekly overview and 2 new decodable passages). See if your child can practice reading the new passages to someone at home. Folders can be returned to school every Thursday. Thank-you!

This week in math, we had a special visit from Zero the Hero for our 30th day of school! He brought us a special challenge with number lines this week. We learned that a number line is a math tool that can be used to count forwards and backwards from a given number. Zero the Hero left many different number lines around the school! We went on a “super-silent” mission to find all the number lines and write down the missing number in each one.

This week we did lots of learning about pumpkins! We learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin and started making our very own pumpkin books! After counting the seeds in our pumpkin we also had a chance to do some planting! We can’t wait to see some sprouts!

Looking Ahead:

Library:  Please send books back to school by Tuesday, November 18th

Cooler Weather is Coming.  Please make sure students have weather appropriate clothing in their backpacks.  Calgary weather can change fast.  A pair of mitts and a hat are always good to keep in their bags moving forward.  As well, please label their items.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place in person at the school on Thursday, November 27 from 3:30pm - 7:30pm and Friday, November 28 from 8:00am to 12:00pm.

Parents will book conference times through their CBE account. Conference bookings will open on Saturday, November 22 at 8:00am and closes on Thursday, November 27 at 2:00pm.

If parents require support with bookings, they can call the office.

These conferences are the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and to provide teachers with information about your child that is important. Teachers will inform you on how your child is adapting to and settling into the new school year but, due to the minimal amount of time spent in school thus far, will not provide information on student learning or achievement.
