November 13-14
Looking Back:
In UFLI this week, we learned all about letter /Dd/. We practiced printing both uppercase and lowercase letters. We are getting really good at using the lines on our page! We learned the sound for letter Dd and drew pictures in our journals of things that start with this letter sound. See if your child can tell you what they drew! Our new heart word this week was “said”. This week we also learned how to play a new “Roll and Read” game which has been added to our UFLI folders. This game can be played at home to help practice decoding skills and reading words.
In Social Studies this week, we began exploring the topic of Identity and Belonging. Students discussed attributes that make us who we are. Some ideas they came up with were what we like, our families, activities we do, and groups we belong to. Students drew their own ideas on a page in their visual journals.
We have been practicing counting, reading and writing numbers to 20. We have been learning how a number line is a tool for counting. We practiced counting backwards, by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. The students completed a show me what you know and wrote numbers to 20 in order. Keep practicing reading and writing those teen numbers!
Check out some friends reading in class today!
Looking Ahead:
Library: Please send books back to school by Tuesday, November 18th
Cooler Weather is Coming. Please make sure students have weather appropriate clothing in their backpacks. Calgary weather can change fast. A pair of mitts and a hat are always good to keep in their bags moving forward. As well, please label their items.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place in person at the school on Thursday, November 27 from 3:30pm - 7:30pm and Friday, November 28 from 8:00am to 12:00pm.
Parents will book conference times through their CBE account. Conference bookings will open on Saturday, November 22 at 8:00am and closes on Thursday, November 27 at 2:00pm.
If parents require support with bookings, they can call the office.
These conferences are the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and to provide teachers with information about your child that is important. Teachers will inform you on how your child is adapting to and settling into the new school year but, due to the minimal amount of time spent in school thus far, will not provide information on student learning or achievement.
