Dec. 15th - 19th

It has been a fun-filled, busy week - packed full of learning and lots of holiday joy! This week students enjoyed gathering together in the gym to sing Christmas carols and listened to a read-aloud from Dr. Slater. Thank-you to parent council for providing us with yummy oranges and candy canes while we listened to our story.

We also loved learning about the winter solstice and had lots of fun working together to make our stone soup. We even made bannock and our own butter!

Here is the recipe for bannock that we followed (in case you would like to try it at home)!

Bannock

Ingredients

· 3 cups all-purpose flour (+ more for kneading)

· 2 tablespoons baking powder

· ¼ cup vegetable oil

· 1 ½ cups water

· 1 pinch salt

· 2 Tbsp sugar

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F

2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, water, sugar and oil. Knead on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes. Spread out onto a cookie sheet to 1 inch thickness. Poke holes in the dough using a fork.

3. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven, until the bottom is golden when you lift up the bread to take a peek.

Our class elf also brought us some candy canes to do a fun science experiment. See if your child can tell you which liquid melted the candy cane the fastest!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
