Looking Back:
It was great to see everyone after the spring break! Here are some of our learning highlights from the week:
On Monday, we were so excited to take part in McKenzie Towne School’s pancake breakfast! What a great way to celebrate our first day back at school. The pancakes were delicious and there were various pancake learning activities and stories sprinkled throughout our day.
In UFLI this week we were introduced to ‘silent e’ and learned how it makes the vowel in the word say its own name. We practiced this concept with the letter ‘a’ and the letter ‘i’. Our heart words this week were: who, by & my. There are two new decodable passages and a Roll & Read games for you to practice at home!
In math this week, we reviewed strategies for adding / subtracting numbers. We reviewed strategies such as number lines, counting-on, drawing pictures and doubles facts. Mrs. Watson’s class practiced using cuisenaire rods to make 10 in many different ways. Mrs. Fell’s class did some focused practice on subtraction.
In Social Studies, we continued to look at cultures of diverse communities in Canada. This week we focused on First Nations, Inuit and Metis. Students had the opportunity to watch videos that demonstrated songs, dance, transportation, games, hunting, food and language.
Looking Ahead:
Field Trip - We will be going to the Confluence Historic Site on Thursday, April 23 for the day. Notices will be sent home next week. Please check your child’s backpack for notices on Monday/Tuesday. There is an Acknowledgement of Risk form that will need to be filled out and returned prior to the trip. We are looking for volunteers. If you are able to volunteer and you have a valid CBE Police clearance, please email your child’s teacher.
