May. 19-22
Looking Back:
This week in UFLI we learned about the different sounds that letter Y can make at the end of a word. We learned that when letter Y comes at the end of a one syllable word, it makes the long /i/ sound, like at the end of the words “my” and “fly”. We learned that Y can also make the long /e/ sound at the end of long words with two or more syllables, like “baby” and “puppy”. Our new heart words this week were four and fourth.
In science we started a new unit about energy and movement. We learned about direction, speed and pathway. We used our knowledge of different pathways (straight, curvy, zig zag, spiral) to describe how animals move.
In Social Studies we learned about the difference between sharing and trading. We also discussed different ways people trade, such as buying and bartering. We learned that buying and selling uses money and bartering is the exchange of goods and services.
Our plants have been growing! Take a look at how tall they are….
Looking Ahead:
Community Walks Notice (ongoing till the end of the year)
We are hoping to get out for a few community walks over the next few weeks and to enjoy learning outside. Depending on the weather, we will try to head out for a community walk one day this week.
Our field trip to the Calgary Zoo is next Thursday (May. 28th). Please ensure you have returned your child’s signed forms to school. Students should come prepared for the weather and bring a lunch and water bottle. Both classes are still in need of volunteers! Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you are able to join us!
