We went to the zoo!
May. 25-29
Looking Back:
We had a great time at the Calgary Zoo on Thursday! We had so much fun observing the different animals and learning all about penguins!
This week in UFLI we learned about something called a final stable syllable. This is a syllable that comes at the end of a word and always makes the same sound. This week we focussed on the final stable syllable -le. We practiced reading and writing words like “apple, puzzle, jungle, uncle” etc.) We also reviewed different ending patterns of words. These are the ending patterns we have learned so far: -ILD, -IND, -OLD, -OST, -OLT, y spells /i/, y spells /e/ and -LE at the end of a word. Our new heart word this week was people.
Our bean plants have been growing a lot and are very tall! This week we observed our plants and learned about the different parts of a plant. We sketched our bean plants and labelled the seed, roots, stem, leaves and buds. We noticed lots of cool things like veins on the leaves and that the stem was prickly! We brought our bean plants home on Friday!
We will continue to watch and observe our growing plants, which also include lettuce, tomato, carrot, cucumber, peas, and peppers!
Looking Ahead:
We have an upcoming project that we will need a shoebox for (preferable with a lid). Please set one aside and we will ask for them in a couple of weeks.
We are asking that every student bring in a baby picture for a fun game we will set up in the next week or so. You can send in a physical copy or email one to your child’s teacher. Thanks for your help!
Our last library day is on Tuesday. Please send back library books in order to sign out a book for the last time.
