June. 15th-19th
June 15-19
We had a busy and engaging week of learning!
Looking Back:
Literacy
In UFLI, we continued building our phonics skills by learning about vowel teams that make long vowel sounds. Students practiced reading and spelling words with the long /a/, /e/, /i/, and /u/ sounds. Through games, word building activities, and reading practice, students learned how vowel teams work together to create different long vowel sounds in words.
Math
Our mathematicians explored 3D shapes this week. We identified common 3D shapes and investigated their attributes. Students tested each shape to determine whether it could roll, stack, or slide, helping them understand how the properties of shapes affect the way they move. We enjoyed making predictions and testing our ideas using a variety of hands-on materials.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we explored the concept of change over time. Students participated in a fun baby picture guessing game, where they examined photos of their classmates as babies and tried to identify who each person was. This activity sparked meaningful conversations about how people grow and change over time. Students discussed similarities and differences between themselves as babies and now, including changes in appearance. This learning helped students understand that growth and change are a natural part of life.
Animal Research Projects
Students continued working on their animal research projects. They learned how to gather information from books and other resources and practiced sharing interesting facts about their chosen animals. We focused on learning about animal habitats, diets, adaptations, and unique characteristics.
Art
To complement our animal research, students created amazing plasticine animal sculptures. They carefully shaped, rolled, and molded the plasticine to represent their chosen animals. It was wonderful to see their creativity and attention to detail as they brought their research to life through art.
Looking Ahead:
"Sports Day will take place next Thursday, June 25th! Students will participate at the following times:
Morning Kindergarten, Grade 3, and Grade 4: 9:00–10:30 a.m.
Afternoon Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2: 1:00–2:15 p.m.
Students are encouraged to show their Canadian spirit by wearing Team Canada colours! We look forward to a fun day filled with activity, teamwork, and school spirit."
Thank you for those that already brought in a shoebox. We will be starting our projects on Monday so please bring one in on Monday (or extra if you are willing to share). Since we will be creating animal habitats with them, your child may wish to supplement the materials we will have at school with their own items found in nature. Students should think about what types of things their animal should see (ie. rocks, moss, sticks, etc..)
Throughout the week, we will be sending home your child’s work and projects that have been created throughout the year. Take time each night to check backpacks and empty out work.
Last Call!!! The Library is now closed for the year. Please return all books as soon as possible.
Community Walks Notice
We are hoping to get out for a community walk next week and enjoy some time outside. Depending on the weather, we will try to head out for a community walk one day next week!
