June. 8-12
Looking Back:
This week in UFLI we continued to learn about r controlled vowels. We focussed on /er/ as well as /ir/ and /ur/. We learned that this sound can be found at the beginning, middle and end of a word and sometimes it can be tricky to tell which spelling to use. We practiced spelling many words containing this new sound, such as “purse, surf, firm, girl, nerve, & fern.” Our new heart words this week were other, another, mother, & brother.
In math this week we started talking about 3D shapes. We learned that these shapes are made up of different 2D shapes and are NOT flat! We looked at examples of some of the following 3D shapes: sphere, cylinder, cube, cone, and a pyramid. We learned that the face of a 3D shape means the flat part. We started a 3D shape booklet and focussed on a sphere.
In Science this week we completed our learning about movement and finished our animal movement books.
We were also very excited about our animal research project that we started working on this week! We are each researching our own chosen animal to learn about its habitat, body parts, its diet, and other fun facts! We will continue working on these next week.
Both classes got a special visit from Constable Mike from the Calgary Police Service. He read us a book about how we all have an imaginary bucket that gets filled when people are kind. We brainstormed and drew different ways we could fill each other’s buckets.
Looking Ahead:
We will be doing a fun guessing game with baby pictures this coming week. If you have not sent one in yet, please send in a physical copy or email one to your child’s teacher by MONDAY! Thanks for your help!
Thank you to those that already brought in a shoebox. We will be starting our projects next week so please bring one in! (or extra if you are willing to share).
The Library is now closed for the year. Please return all books as soon as possible.
